2022
Design in the service of inclusion — Redesign of a digital literacy and adoption support platform.
What?
The complete redesign of the Solidarité Numérique website — a digital inclusion program launched in March 2020 at the height of the first COVID wave, led by La Mednum and the French National Agency for Territorial Cohesion (ANCT). The project covered visual identity, UX and web design, prototyping, support for development teams, and print materials. An end-to-end mission, from logo to technical specifications.
Why?
Solidarité Numérique was born out of urgency to support citizens most vulnerable to digitalization — isolated individuals, those with low digital literacy, unable to complete administrative processes online on their own. After launching a first version, La Mednum wanted to shift from a site aggregating external links to a true platform for producing and distributing original resources — tutorials, guides, educational content. This ambition required a deep overhaul of both the user journey and visual identity, while remaining accessible to the widest possible audience.
How?
On visual identity, the approach was to renew the existing universe without betraying it — preserving the color palette and illustration style, creating a new logo combining a smartphone and a mediator's hand, adopting Marianne (the French government's official design system typeface) paired with Verveine for a human touch, and developing a set of illustrations depicting users and their everyday situations.
On web design, the work focused on readability and navigation — tutorial usability with a sticky table of contents, "good to know" callout blocks, optimized heading structure and column layout, navigation flows by topic and sub-topic, a search engine indexed across resources, dynamic "most followed" and "featured" sections, and the integration of live chat and a chatbot. The mission extended through to designing the back office and onboarding the team of mediator-writers.
Outcome
A coherent, accessible, self-sufficient platform — designed for users facing digital exclusion, operated by trained mediator teams. From the urgency of a COVID-era launch to a lasting editorial identity and architecture.
